"The poor housing quality vs. available, affordable housing is an issue that has limited the growth and development of the urban areas in Ghana. The increase of the urban population has vastly outpaced the number of affordable and available housing units. In 1984, The government launched new home developments to fix the deficit, but it was not successful. This thesis will examine alternative and long-term solutions, by studying the historical context, the current state of the urban housing sectors, as well as, case studies of successful housing projects that are geographically and contextually applicable, to retrofit the existing buildings."
