"'Reigning Men,' an original half-hour comedy series follows Evan Walker, a hungry college graduate ready to live out his dream of being a staff writer for 'Athletics,' a premier sports magazine where his uncle Robert Walker is chief editor. Robert however has very different plans for his nephew when he mentions a sportswriter position at 'Alpha,' an up-and-coming gay news source. He doesn't care that Evan isn't gay. Robert thinks Evan needs more experience, so if he can prove successful at 'Alpha' then he will gladly accept Evan into 'Athletics.' Evan, heartbroken and desperate, accepts the position and begins his brave journey into a fierce new world. This paper will discuss how 'Reigning Men's fish-out-of-water narrative theme, characters and visual style were influenced by 'Paris is Burning,' 'Looking,' 'The Office,' 'Ugly Betty' and 'Black-ish.'"
Includes script for 'Alpha,' an original play inspired by the characters of 'Reigning Men,' as well as the original screenplay, "Fresh Meat," for the pilot episode of the series "Reigning Men."
