Abstract: |
"This thesis briefly examines Black representation on television as well as takes an inquisitive look at the Teen TV epidemic, as it voices the essential and felicitous need for a new television program that fuses these two concepts. The teleplay, 'Saint City,' brings to fruition a teen drama centered on a Black-female lead who has recently been enrolled into New Orleans most prestigious, all-white Catholic high school. At the heart of this coming of age drama series is the theme of struggling to stay true to oneself versus falling victim to the trials of 'fitting in' when faced with the seductive temptations of life." Keywords: teen TV, black women in television, high school drama, African American female representation, familial relationships, New Orleans, fitting in |
