"This thesis will concentrate on the application of Urban Design concepts in world-building for animation. It will cover the concepts of designing a resilient space, thinking about transportation, designing places of interest etc. The principles of Urban Design will be explained, with links drawn to the details of world-building and how this can be considered to be a more streamlined approach to environment design. The thesis will be backed by one large umbrella case study -- 'Zootopia,' and other examples from other films like 'Monsters Inc.,' 'Big Hero 6,' 'Black Panther' and many more. These will be studied on the basis of the Principles of Urban Design and how they have been inadvertently applied in the design of these environments."
Includes the author's animated short film "Navaagat" ["Newcomer"], which follows a young woman who moves from her simple, peaceful life in rural India to a complex, sprawling city. Narrated in Hindi with English subtitles.
