Abstract: |
"African American women have often struggled with being labeled 'the angry black woman.' This thesis will explore the character Broken in 'Unsatisfied, Damaged, Broken' as an attempt to move away from the stereotypical representation of African American women. In doing so, I incorporated Stanislavski technique and an investigation of the history of black women in slavery to enable me to truthfully portray Broken's vulnerability and strength." Keywords: African American, labeled, "angry black woman", stereotypical, slavery, Stanislavski’s technique, vulnerability |
