Abstract: |
"Railway transportation is a key element in China’s comprehensive transportation system. As a hub for rail transport, railway stations in every city in China have occupied an important position and hold extraordinary significance. As external ways to interact with the city, railway stations and their surrounding areas often give the first impression of the city. Jinan Railway Station was one of the biggest stations in east China. It is situated on the edge of the old city of Jinan, Shandong, China. 'It is a comprehensive top-class station integrating passenger transport with freight transport, and it has a handling capacity of over 65,000 passengers daily.' The main station building was built in the 1990s and is located on the old station’s position. Around the train station are many hotels, fast-food restaurants, and street-side retail shops to provide a variety of services to visitors. However, the area is crowded, noisy and has chaotic traffic problems. There are no green open spaces or community areas. Therefore, for this project, traffic disturbance and a lack of green open space are two main problems that we face. Research analysis will be undertaken on specific situations in the Jinan railway station, such as government planning requirements, economic development, urban construction, transportation, and sustainable development. On the other hand, as the city’s train station, its surroundings and facilities need a lot of trimming and construction. For this high-density space, transport facilities, public-service facilities and landscape design are very important. By building around the railway station and Station Square, and establishing a connection with the city, the new design will adhere to the principles of sustainable development."
