Abstract: |
"The aim of this thesis is to explain my ideas about the nature of the human soul as expressed in a series of my artworks including painting, drawing, and sculpture. Throughout the paper, I discuss how the formal aspects of each medium I use help to relate my concept about the soul’s journey from conception, to entrapment within the human body during life, to its ultimate liberation from the body in death. I also detail my interest in the Romantic conception of the soul and my inspiration by artists including Leonardo da Vinci, Jackson Pollock, and Marco Castelli." Keywords: birth, death, drawing, expressionism, identity, masks, mortality, painting, romanticism, silhouettes, the soul |
