Life magazine covers were on a variety of topics. Each issue had a theme that was introduced by the cover and reflected throughout the issue. Power O’Malley was born Michael Augustine Power in Ireland in 1877. He studied at the Metropolitan School of Art in Dublin. His father died when he was young; he took the name O’Malley to honor his stepfather. Coming to the United States around 1900, he found work doing book illustrations and covers for Life and other periodicals of the time. After he married, he and his family traveled to Europe and the Caribbean. He is also known for his paintings. O’Malley died in New York in 1946. Full page color cover. The subtitle of this work is: As the Futurist sees it. |
