Most issues of Life had a theme that was introduced by the cover and reflected throughout the issue. This issue was titled the "Pro-Suffrage Number."

Though the cartoons in Life were only signed Calvert, it might be assumed that this work was done by Calvert H. Smith, who also worked for Harper’s in 1913 and 1914. While the style is a bit different, the signatures match. Little else has been discovered about the artist.

One third page cartoon set in front of the Life building. Note the Life cherub above the doorway. Suffrage was definitely a topic that Life Magazine addressed, though not always in a Pro-Suffrage way. The cartoons in this issue, while perhaps in favor of women voting, don't necessarily support suffrage for all.
