This thesis is focused on studying the important role of a colorscript in establishing a well-developed visual language for an animated story. This statement is supported by analyzing various colorscripts that have been created for successful animation feature films through animation history and from different companies accompanied with the quotes and thoughts from colorscript artists. The aim of the thesis is emphasizing the functions that a colorscript serves in defining the intended look of the film, complimenting the emotional arc of the story, and assisting the characters’ actions by taking advantage of the strengths of color. At the end, the colorscripts of Up and Toy Story 3 are considered as the main case studies for this thesis. The specific approaches that the artists have applied in creating each of these colorscripts are discussed.
