Description: |
Most issues of Life had a theme that was introduced by the cover and reflected throughout the issue. This issue is titled the "Easter Number." While the signature E.D. Lance is clear, it was only through happenstance that it could be linked to artist Elizabeth Dennison Lance French. She was born in Plymouth, Pennsylvania in 1877. She studied with William Merritt Chase at the Pennsylvania Academy and Charles Hawthorne in New York City. She worked primarily as a mural painter, sculptor, writer, and decorator. She also worked as a cartoonist and illustrator for Harpers Magazine. She died in 1943. Full page color cartoon, on an insert that was not numbered. |
