Life magazine covers were on a variety of topics. Each issue had a theme that was introduced by the cover and reflected throughout the issue. This was the "Christmas Number."

Charles Forebell was born in 1884 in Brooklyn, New York, and attended the Pratt Institute, before joining the art staff of the New York World. Around 1910, he began contributing cartoons to magazines such as Life and Judge. He did cartoon series like 'In Ye Goode Old Days' for Life and 'In Ancient Times' for Judge through the 1930s. He also worked in commercial art, doing ads for various national companies like Planter’s Peanut. He died in 1946.

Half page cartoon. The phrase the worm has turned has several meanings. One is that even the lowliest worm will turn on its attacker. More recent interpretations are that a situation has changed.
