Description: |
Black and white stereograph of the Savannah River, with the double image affixed to yellow backing paper. The title mentions that the view is looking from the Exchange and that could refer to the Cotton Exchange Building on East Bay Street or the City Exchange Building which was on Bay Street and Bull. The City Exchange had a tall cupola which might have provided a good view of the riverfront. The Southern Series of stereographs were published in Boston by Charles Pollock. Chandler Seaver, Jr. of Boston was the photographer and he traveled to other cities such as Charleston and Jacksonville as well as Savannah. Seaver's photographs were taken between 1870 and his death in 1879. |
