Abstract: |
"In recent years, there has been a surge in interest and use in wearable technology and digital health applications. Yet, many applications provide a limited perspective on wellbeing. With this interest in health, it is important for graphic designer to understand data mining’s broader potential as it applies to wellbeing in general and the possibility of developing a digital application toward this end. Furthermore, certain people and groups of people, like creatives, can suffer disproportionately from mental illness or lead very stressful lives due to long work hours, tight deadlines, and the pressure to be innovative. This thesis will demonstrate how graphic designers can suggest potential uses of data mining within application design for tracking, monitoring, and improving user wellbeing. Such an application could help general users, as well as provide specific groups such as creatives, with a better understanding of, and potential improvement in, their wellbeing. Furthermore, this thesis will demonstrate how data mined within applications could be used for research to identify factors that may be important in improving user wellbeing."
