"This thesis will analyze how the experience and perception of auditory performances can be enhanced through the design of a deployable structural acoustic system used to accompany traveling musical ensembles. In the field of acoustics, spaces designed for professional performances, i.e. theaters and concert halls, are generally given the highest priority for acoustic design. However, various other performance opportunities are taking place outside of these venues and few people have access to travel to those professional venues. This study is focused on developing a deployable structural acoustic system that would provide the same level of acoustic control found in high tech concert halls in order to provide a higher quality of performance perception and give access to more individuals to be able to see these types of performances. This study will provide and in-depth look into acoustics and how professional performance venues use different sound engineering concepts to provide a specific soundscape. An examination of auditory experience and perception, shape and form in architecture, structural applications, and consistency of performance will provide the basis of research for the design. Transportation of such a system would allow the same acoustic soundscape to be experienced regardless of the performance venue or location. The proposal of this idea will be developed for exterior applications, catering to all forms of performance art. Designing a system that would consistently provide the same soundscape atmosphere regardless of location is the overall expected outcome of this topic, ultimately leading to an overall improvement in satisfaction from individuals in attendance." --Abstract
