Each issue of Life magazine had a theme that was introduced by the cover and reflected throughout the issue. The theme of this issue was Fashion.

Charles Forbell was born in Brooklyn, New York, and attended the Pratt Institute, before joining the art staff of the New York World. Around 1910, he began contributing cartoons to magazines such as Life and Judge. He did cartoon series like 'In Ye Goode Old Days' for Life and 'In Ancient Times' for Judge through the 1930s. He also worked in commercial art, doing ads for various national companies like Planter’s Peanut. He died in 1946.

Quarter page cartoon. Several artists at Life had themes of aviation and travel by air. Forbell did a number of cartoons with futuristic subjects for Life.
