Abstract: |
"There is marked evidence of interest in the most gruesome sides of humanity throughout the history of art and design. From the Danse Macabre in the Middle Ages to the goth movement of the 1980s, there has always been an undercurrent of the dark and gruesome permeating our culture. In recent years, the rise in popularity of true crime media in the art and entertainment industry has led to further destigmatizing of what was formerly a rather taboo subject. This has led to an increased viability for darker illustrative work in all markets, from children's books to packaging design." --Abstract
