Abstract: |
This thesis focuses on how body language helps to convey story in animation. We shall analyze how artists in the past and animators in the present have both taken advantage of body language to appeal and connect to their audience by creating stories without words. Body language has been used in both traditional art and animation to create exposition and foreshadowing, reveal the protagonist and antagonist, and expose characters’ personalities, relationships, inner thoughts, and motivations. We shall first look at the simpler tableaus arranged in traditional art before moving on to explore the far more complicated movements and interactions of animation. Finally, we shall examine how body language drives the story in my thesis animation Elusive. |
