Abstract: |
"The photographs that make up Worth its Salt document and preserve the Salton Sea, a place that is literally fading away. Without an adequate plan to save it, this man-made lake that has existed for over 100 years in Southern California’s desert is receding and deteriorating at an exponential rate. My work involves various photographic techniques, with emphasis on the traditional methods of salt printing and cyanotypes, to attain various levels of preservation and documentation of a disappearing environment. Science and art merge in this investigation of a beautiful yet ailing landscape." Keywords: Salton Sea, entropy, environmentalism, preservation, salt prints, cyanotypes, panorama, art and science |
