Abstract: |
This work examines the benefit and possibility for a new terminal for Georgia Ports Authority and proposes a potential solution. The site is in Savannah, Georgia on the Savannah River and specific to the Talmadge Memorial Bridge. Identification of existing problems is achieved from site visits, consultation with the port engineers, and analyzed through case study comparison to more efficient structural function and aesthetic composition. Design attributes are formulated as a matrices of local historical guidelines, conceptual association, and programmatic requirements. The project will show how a new headquarters building can symbolize the Port of Savannah as a world port and economic driver of the area. An assumption is that the new facility will be a worthy investment meeting demands for the anticipated large increase of shipments through the port. In addition, a new facility positioned at the gateway to Savannah (Talmadge Bridge base) can serve as a landmark and testament not only to the Port’s benefit, but to the city’s vision as a whole. |
