Abstract: |
This thesis focuses on the act of seeing and interpreting observations of everyday into abstract paintings. Eyes become a viewfinder to narrow the panoramic down to a single glimpse. The glimpses are recorded in a reference inventory as photographs and writing about their formal qualities. The fragments are grouped together to create compositions that represent the time of the observed sightings. This practice allows for the paintings to be inspired by accessible subjects but also focus on formal considerations. Referencing daily routines on a single day, Saturday April 7, 2012, this body of work was created to show a transformation from a pedestrian to a visionary who sees the everyday as a means to tell a story and to elevate the unrecognized poetry of daily life. |
