Abstract: |
"This thesis will explore how interior design can evoke simple changes in behavior in order to drastically improve the lives of at-risk teens in West Savannah. The proposed environment is a teen center designed to attract, inspire, and motivate teens towards graduation. Located in their neighborhood with direct connection to the community and to the street, the center becomes a natural hangout - a third place - providing them with social, educational, and recreational opportunities. By providing these teens with an attractive supportive environment to spend their time, they are less likely to hang out in areas with poor influences and more likely to graduate high school. With a high school diploma, these teens qualify for higher paying jobs which could help to end a life of poverty and ultimately result in a much higher quality of life."
