Despite the recent advances by the women's movement; the portrayal of female leads in cinema often reflects an antiquated and stereotypical view. This thesis will examine three feature films from Pixar Animation Studios that helps to illustrate why women continue to be viewed as a Second Sex even in our modern society. By further understanding the conscious or unconscious motivations of sexist storytelling, it is the intention of this paper to create an alternative awareness based on the acceptance and true equality of gender in promoting better storytelling and character development.

Since the beginning of civilization the process of weaving has aided the human race in developing many systems and techniques. Weaving has been used literally and metaphorically to create systems that have helped to bring order and understanding to our cultures and societies. For example, the ancient Greeks expanded the weaver’s right angle of warp and weft into a plan for city streets. Even today, we continue to use metaphors of weaving to express and explain new discoveries that are perhaps not yet fully understood, in fields like neurology and physics.

Exploration of the self-consciousness has been a part of the human being’s quest to define oneself as a higher life form. In art, the quest continues through the process of self-portraiture. Self-identity as it is reflected in self-portraits can be categorized three different ways. Autobiography, character replacement and artist as career are definitive categories in which artists have explored their own psyche to further understand their own placement.

"This thesis considers the architectural changes and their social implications in urban renewal efforts in Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati in the twenty-first century, and suggests that limited community input and a lack of consideration for mixed incomes precluded the success of those efforts. This study of the range of development strategies and their respective benefits in inner-city neighborhoods has the potential to help others avoid the negative consequences of urban revitalization. With this perspective, the thesis will contribute a collection of lessons to be learned regarding culture, historic housing and neighborhoods, and urban growth."

“Home is Here” is an emotional journey, in which I intended the audience to move along with the main character. The video installation was conceptualized to be showcased in an outdoor space accessible to the public, intending to celebrate the universality of experience. Art has the power to energize a public space, it moves and brings people together into a single space, creating a shared experience. This is the ultimate goal of the installation. Home is Here is an experimental journey dealing with the emotional state of Home. It’s conformed by videos that show moments of the main character’s life, and show us how he deals with his memories to build a world for himself. It uses a fragmented narrative, with images composed in the form of visual poems guided by narration. As a video installation, it is meant to be experienced through three outdoor screens with surrounding projections and sound.
