Magpies is a counting book by SCAD student Lauren Agne. It won Third Place in the 6th Annual Juried Student Artist's Book Competition. The juror was Margot Ecke of Smokey Road Press in Athens, GA. Screenprinted on both sides with magpies and feathers.

Unique book housed in an antique film canister. The book is made with handmade paper and the text is typewritten. Hamrick's text is a mixture of personal stories set in Georgia, and music lyrics with sexual innuendos involving music music lyrics. The stories are told by a progressively older narrator, and is a kind of coming of age book, or self-portrait with a written soundtrack.

Eight memories are described; one on each double page spread with Lori's account consistently on the right page, her sister's on the left. The main details of the story are told in a square that pops out in the middle of the page spread, while peripheral information fills the rest of the page. The image of both sisters, surrounded with textural collage, are revealed throughout the book by the die cuts of the pop up page.
