"Illustration could be a universal language and have potential as a tool in art therapy. Based on new research on emotional intelligence and its profound connection to language, one can broaden emotional repertoire with visual components as tools, using them to teach emotions that are unknown to us because they transcend cultures and have no direct translation to English. Learning foreign words for various emotions through illustration can result in a more controlled and conscious life, an awareness and use of compassion and empathy, and help heal mental illnesses."
