"Today, medical intervention rate during labor and delivery has increased. Although medical and technological advances in maternity care has been life-saving procedures, unnecessary medical intervention in the process of childbirth can harm both mothers and babies and transform birth from a natural physiological process into a surgical case. This thesis focuses on the interior design of birth rooms for enhancement of the psychology of childbirth as a natural event. Because in healthcare settings medical safety comes first, women’s physiological and psychological needs during the birth experience are disregarded. The aim of this thesis is to identify interior design elements that provide support to the natural birthing process in two different birth settings; in hospital and birth center facilities."
